Charity Spotlight - Kitchen Social

All Greens is proud to support The Mayor's Fund for London and their Kitchen Social programme.

Covid-19 has increased the number of children and young people in London at risk of ‘food insecurity’, which means that they cannot guarantee sufficient quality or quantity of food. It is estimated that over 200,000 children and families are at risk of going hungry during the pandemic.

Kitchen Social, a Mayor’s Fund for London programme, is the largest provider of food for children in London during the school holidays. Now that schools are closed and children are at home, Kitchen Social has stepped up to coordinate relief efforts with its own network of community organisations and other food charities to ensure food and supplies get to the children and families who need it most during the pandemic.

A family who are receiving weekly food parcels from Old Oak Community Centre – supported by All Greens – have described the service provided by Kitchen Social as very essential.

The father is self-employed and is the sole breadwinner of the family with three children. He has been told to shield for 12 weeks and the family is going through financial difficulties as there is no income. The mother said, "I am so grateful and blessed to be part of Old Oak Centre and to be receiving these parcels weekly. My children look forward to the packed lunches on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the weekly delivery of fruit and vegetables.’’
